Air pollution and its impacts on ecosystems, Sustainable development policy of island nations, Weather risk management, Environmental assessment, management and decision making
PURPOSE OF RESEARCH
Environmental change is one of the most significant challenges we face over the coming century, especially in land use and island nations toward sustainable development. Since 2000, I started to focus on the interrelationship between climate change, socioeconomic impact and policy from multi-aspects of government, local resident and industrial community, including "Impact evaluation of economy and environment for rainy season," "Influence evaluation of atmospheric long-range transportation for serious nuclear catastrophe," "Re-evaluate the status of used oils recycling and reuse," and "Policy on country towards sustainable development." Based on personal academic schedule, I would like to utilizing Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) into land use project focused on vulnerability, environmental assessment and management for pursuing Ph.D. in the Graduate Degree Program in Ecology Program in Ecology (GDPE). I truly believe that the crucial topics in Asia focused on interactions between environmental changes and ecological responses should be the main object I will seek the truth in my whole life.
The following two concerns point out why I should change my original major from Atmospheric Sciences and Civil Engineering to Ecology Program.
a. GDPE is an interdisciplinary program in a wide range of ecological subjects and the primary goal of program is couple with my interest field.
b. Prof. Dennis Ojima in GDPE can advise me to practice academic researches and I also can participate in international projects, especially in East-Asia scientific international framework.
To follow the purpose of personal academic schedule, the International Geosphere- Biosphere Programme (IGBP) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), I am trying to understand five goals in GDPE as follows,
a. The interaction of landscape change, urbanization and long-range transportation air pollution and also to locate the exactly emission source of dust events. By that, It is the important step for me to understand the response of ecosystems to multiple stresses.
b. The various interesting projects focused on the GHG and its impacts on the local or remote downwind regions using visual systems, including GIS, climate models outputs and satellite images or RS. In rapid environmental changing, a whole risk assessment, evaluation system and vulnerability index are propitious to decision making.
c. The fact that who and what are vulnerability to the mutiple environmental changes underway, where and what can be done to reduce vulnerability to change, how are those changes attenuated or amplified by different human and environmental conditions and how may more resilient and adaptive communities and societies be built. The difference of time series and regional space and studying the impact degree, the difference analysis of inter-government decision making and environmental policy under global climate change.
